FAQs for library users during the Coronavirus outbreak

The Library as a physical space is currently not accessible due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

We continue to offer all of our services ONLINE.

 

Q. Are the library electronic resources still available for remote students?

Although not accessible physically, the library still continues to provide equal access to all of the resources and collections, including access to databases, e-journals, e-books and continues to support the students who are learning and studying remotely.

We are implementing ways to further support online studying and learning and to increase library material that will be available electronically where possible.

 

Q. Where do I find subject related information to my studies?

You can use the browse the Subject Resources Guides to see what online bout specific subjects and how to obtain material relevant to those subjects, within the Information and Learning Commons (ILC) as well as, at the University of Sheffield Library.

Consult the ILC Information Resources guide to see what kind of resources you should use when you are working and selecting material for your project, assignment or dissertation.

Q. Where can I search for library material?

Use OpenABEKT Library Catalogue to search and retrieve items held in our collections both in print and electronic format. The online catalogue contains full records of books, periodicals, theses and audio-visual material.

Q. Can I borrow books from the library?

Since the library as a physical space is not accessible, access to print resources is restricted.

You can use the library catalogue to find what material is still available to students in electronic format, including books and dissertations.

In a case where an item you need from the catalogue is available in print format, send an email to the library so we can further investigate if it can be found in its electronic format.

Alternatively, check your online book borrowing, options, as special collections have been created to facilitate the needs of students to access material during this period.

 

Q. Where can I find help to manage my references?

Use the following guide to learn more about what tools are available for students to help them with referencing.

Q. I have a library enquiry. What should I do?

Q. What is the Online Library Chat Service?

“Quick Questions” – is the new Online Library Chat Service.

Library Chat is an online reference service that we will offer alongside with our email and phone call service, to make it easy for students to communicate with the library staff in real-time instant messages.

The library staff will be monitoring this online real-time service from 12:00-15:00, Monday through Friday.

When Online Library Chat Service is offline, you can still contact us via email at library@citycollege.sheffield.eu or anagnostopoulou@citycollege.sheffield.eu or by phone at  (+30) 2310 538560 (ext 143)

 

Q. Will I get an answer to my online enquiry outside of the library opening hours?

Online library services & resources are available 7 days a week: we are here to respond to your questions and support you with your studies.

 

Q. Can I still use the Interlibrary Request Service to obtain material not available in the Library collections?

Yes, students can still request to obtain material that is not available fulltext in library collections or resources. Contact the library via email including the full bibliographic details of the requested items.

Please note that due to closure of libraries this period and limitation of library services some requests may not be fulfilled.

Q. Does the Library offer the service of supplying users with digitized library material?

The library's Document Delivery Service (digitization of library material) will provide scanned copies of book chapters, journal articles, extracts of dissertations for private study.

Q. I need to return an overdue item. What should I do?

You can renew an item online via email library@citycollege.sheffield.eu

Please note that if you receive a Library Notice via email regarding outstanding overdue items please ignore it.

 

Q. Does the Library provide an extended loan period?

All loan periods have been increased to 31 May for items that cannot be returned due to the library not being physically accessible.

 

Q. How will I find out if the level of library services has to change in response to Coronavirus?

The central point of information for students and staff will be CITY College’s website.

We will also update the library website and these FAQs as the situation changes and use email communication to keep you posted.
