Training Sessions by the Library Staff to empower students’ research needs

To support our students’ research needs, the library staff of CITY College organised as series of Training Sessions for all new undergraduate and postgraduate students. As our Library - the Information and Learning Commons (ILC) - offers so much more than the physical spaces and print resources, it is essential for students to acquire those skills that will enable them to exploit the variety of information resources and to retrieve, and use this information effectively.

Training Sessions by CITY College Library Staff to empower students’ research needs

Each session included the presentation of:

  • Library Catalogue searching
  • ILC Electronic Resources (databases, e-journals, e-books)
  • Sheffield Library: electronic resources for IF students
  • Setting up MUSE Accounts
  • Findit@sheffield: linking Google Scholar with Sheffield Library
  • Online Bibliographic Tools (Endnote, Mendeley, Orion)
  • 301 Skills Centre

During the training sessions students had the opportunity to submit their own questions and discuss with librarians ideas for further training opportunities.

By empowering students to develop their research skills, the library can contribute to their academic success and help in the process of our graduates becoming independent and successful lifelong learners.

“So….whether you are a student writing an assignment or you are preparing for your dissertation, the library is here to help provide a strong foundation for your search for information”.

If you need further instruction, please Book an Appointment with a librarian.
