Dr Stamatopoulou is an Associate Professor and the Head of the Computer Science Department of CITY College, the University of York Europe Campus. She holds a Master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Edinburgh and a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Sheffield (under the South-East European Research Centre Doctoral scheme).

Dr Stamatopoulou is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and a member of the British Computer Society,  the Hellenic Artificial Intelligence Society, and the Intelligence, Modelling & Computation (IMC) Research Group of the department. Her research interests include Learning and Teaching in Higher Education but mainly lie in the area of formal modelling of multi agent systems, investigating ways of using formal methods and paradigms for the purpose of modelling the behaviour of individual agents that constitute multi-agent systems of a dynamic structure, such as biologically-inspired systems composed of reactive agents. She is currently furthering this research to include emotional agents, with particular emphasis on emotional contagion.
