The MSc in Banking and Finance provides a rigorous and advanced intellectual training in the area of finance based on the most current and modern academic thinking and industry best practice. Research Methods for Finance
This unit provides a series of lectures on academic presentation, writing skills and an introduction to research issues and methods. The unit examines a wide range of research methodologies, both qualitative and quantitative, with reference to their philosophical base and practical application in marketing, management, banking and the leisure industry. The aim is to help students design, implement and apply their own research as well as to equip them to critically evaluate published material. Back to top

The Banking and Financial System
Emphasis is given to the theory and practice of the functioning of various types of financial markets and institutions. The changing nature of the financial system under the force of internationalisation and innovation and the process of European integration on the financial structure in Europe are covered thoroughly. Econometrics for Finance
The aim of the unit is to provide students with the necessary background so that they can understand the general principles underlying the basic quantitative techniques used by financial analysts. The topics covered during the lectures refer to decision analysis, inferential statistics, regression and correlation analysis, specification of a model, econometric problems, time series and forecasting. Corporate Finance
The main objective of the unit is to provide an understanding of the major areas of corporate finance, as well as to provide an understanding of the major tools and techniques available to financial managers in making sound financial decisions in the context of running a business. The unit will cover the theoretical background of corporate finance issues, but students should expect a practical application component to enhance the lectures. Back to top

Investments and Security Analysis
This unit provides students with the opportunity to understand and apply the basic principles of investment analysis of financial securities and an examination of the modern theory of portfolio selection and management. Following a short discussion about the financial system, the introductory part of the unit will focus on the different types of financial markets and securities, namely equity, debt and derivatives. Important empirical evidence from all three types of financial markets will be examined by this unit. Subsequently, the main issues of the unit will include: technical analysis, empirical analysis, event studies, financial anomalies and valuation of securities. Finally, the unit will focus on portfolio evaluation under uncertainty based on asset pricing techniques, strategic portfolio management and portfolio performance evaluation. Back to top

Financial Reporting and Analysis
The aim of this unit is to offer students the accounting tools and the ability to manage accounting information as a critical instrument in presenting a corporation's financial picture to external and internal interest groups or users for the sole purpose of enhancing the decision making process. The unit also aims to enhance the students' critical thinking, the essential communication skills and the ability for cooperation, required for the effective application of the above mentioned tools and techniques. Commercial and Investment Banking
This unit attempts to provide a broad overview of commercial and investment banking, their role in the economy and the forces that are continuing to change them worldwide. The unit examines in detail issues such as consumer and commercial credit analysis, asset and liability management, risk management, foreign exchange rates, loan policy and money management services. Furthermore, topics covered include investment banking activities, such as raising capital, advising on mergers and acquisitions, brokerage/dealership activities, asset management and proprietary trading and investing. Financial Derivatives and Risk Management
This unit provides students with the opportunity to understand the theoretical and practical aspects of the markets for financial futures, options and other derivatives. These instruments have become extremely popular investment tools over the past 25 years and have generated a profusion of innovative products and ideas. Derivatives have become one of the most important tools of modern finance, from both the academic and the practical standpoint. This unit focuses on the techniques for the valuation of futures and options aiming to uncover many practical aspects of their use and outline the key elements of a risk management framework. In particular, it defines the main kind of derivatives, shows how they are used to achieve various speculating and hedging objectives and familiarises students with a framework for pricing derivatives and risk management. Dissertation
The dissertation represents a piece of individual and original research based on an approved topic of the student’s choice related to the course and selected in consultation with tutors. The term ‘originality’ here does not necessarily imply that the dissertation will develop new theoretical insights or models but that it clearly demonstrates the development of new insights and knowledge in the candidates own mind and work. Career, Employability and Enterprise Centre

The Career, Employability and Enterprise Centre, focuses on helping students to set attainable career goals. It offers advice on CVs and cover letters, and on how to effectively handle job interviews. Through career fairs, and different internship programmes, the department aims at constantly bringing students in contact with prospective employers. 

Every spring we organize the Annual Career Fair presenting with an opportunity to get a first feel of job seeking. During the event students and alumni have interview opportunities with corporate recruiters and present their skills and abilities to potential employers. Large companies, organisations and multinationals from different industries across S.E. Europe participate every year in our Career Fair and offer employment and internship opportunities to our students and graduates.
