It is a great pleasure to welcome you on behalf of the University of Sheffield International Faculty, CITY College to the English Studies Department.
You are about to begin a challenging journey to a rich academic experience, exploring the field of English studies. Our primary goal is to guide and support you, making this a stimulating and constructive experience, that will open up for you a wide range of career opportunities in a variety of language-related professions: language teaching and testing, material development, advertising and media, publishing, translation, computational linguistics, or management positions in various corporations, just to mention a few of them.
We are very delighted that you will be attending our BA (Hons) and MA Programmes; we all appreciate the enthusiasm and creative energy that each of our students brings along when entering CITY College and we are confident that, in turn, our academic institution will also fulfill your expectations.
Studying at The University of Sheffield International Faculty, City College, one of the top 100 Universities in the world, ensures you high quality of education and research activity, and, most significantly, the same degree with students who attend classes in UK. In other words, you will be studying in an accredited, dynamic and international academic institution with dedicated academic staff, appealing courses on English language teaching, linguistics and literature, complemented with a significant number of extracurricular activities.
My colleagues and I are here to warmly join you in this academic endeavour from your very first day in our Programmes until your successful completion of your studies, offering you high-quality education, a network of friends, and numerous unique experiences. After all, CITY College has gained significant recognition throughout its history for the passionate commitment to excellence and diversity.
Being a student in our Department you will become a member of a research community; our Faculty members are all active researchers in their fields of expertise, and they can thus offer research-informed teaching and provide you with opportunities to experience research-led learning, with hands-on practice through individual or collaborative projects. Certainly, all the above become feasible through the provision of personal support to students within a framework of ongoing and consistent project supervision, tutor advising, and detailed feedback on student assignments.
As the Head of the English Studies Department, I would like to assure you that in the International Faculty of The University of Sheffield we are both ready and willing to provide all our undergraduate and postgraduate students with the skills and support services you need to grow academically, socially, and personally.
Please accept our wishes for a successful academic year, and do not hesitate to seek our guidance; all Staff and Faculty members are more than willing to assist with academic or any other issues you may face while navigating through your first semester, as well as throughout your studies.
So, welcome to the Department of English Studies, and set sail for an inspirational journey towards a successful future!
