Congratulations Dr Gonidis!

Dr Fotis GonidisCongratulations to Fotis Gonidis, Research Associate and PhD candidate at SEERC, on successfully defending his PhD thesis entitled “A Framework Enabling the Cross Platform Development of Service-based Cloud Applications”. Mr Gonidis’ thesis was co-supervised by Dr Iraklis Paraskakis and Dr Antoni Simons who offered him great support and guidance throughout his research journey.

The members of his evaluation committee were Prof. Keith Jeffery and Prof. Petros Kefalas.

Mr Gonidis commented on his success: “Carrying out a PhD may become a lifelong experience, which to a certain extend shapes the way you think, react and face the challenges in your life. Above all though, it is a journey through uncharted routes full of surprises, mystery and unexpected encounters. There are days, when you are excited and full of motivation, followed by days of disappointment and frustration. Nevertheless, when you reach the end of your journey, there is only one feeling left, that is fulfilment. You feel that you have fulfilled the promise to yourself, which is to accomplish the assignment you undertook when you started this journey. And it is this feeling, which gives value to all the good and bad moments you have been through.

I owe my deepest gratitude to my supervisors, Dr Iraklis Paraskakis and Dr Anthony J. H. Simons for their unconditional mentorship and support and also for providing me the opportunity to participate in the RELATE European Project with the prestigious position of the Marie Curie Fellow.  Additionally, I would like to wholeheartedly thank the whole SEERC family for accompanying and supporting me in my journey.

Being awarded with a PhD is only the beginning. My future plans include further promoting and advancing the field of my research, namely Cloud Computing, either by pursuing a career in Academia or in Industry.

Fotis Gonidis holds a Diploma in Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and a Professional Doctorate in Engineering in Information and Communication Technology from Eindhoven University of Technology, The Netherlands. He has obtained experience working in the Electronics (Philips, NXP Semiconductors) and Automotive Industry (DAF Trucks) in the Netherlands. He has been a Marie Curie Fellow participating in the Marie Curie Initial Training Network ‘RELATE. His research interests are in the area of Cloud Computing, Service-Oriented Computing and Software Engineering.

The International Faculty community warmly congratulates Fotis and wishes him all the best in his future endeavours.
